All healthcare organizations have medical records, whether paper or electronic. We have to follow all the new health care policies. Our government is constantly changing the rules and regulations for practices and it is very hard to keep up. Recently, EMR’s have been a topic of discussion. Many offices still have not implemented an EMR nor do they plan on transitioning any time soon. Why? Because it is a headache and it’s costly. Sometimes it can slow the office down because it is so complicated. by Quantal Langford
In Part 2 of the Inside Out series, we begin to go a little deeper into the branding process. In specific we are talking about the “character” of your brand. When you think of a company like Apple. What do you think of? What do they represent? Disruption of Status Quo? Innovation? Minimalist? When you walk into a Apple Store, how does the customer service approach you? How is the layout of the store? The communication of their marketing materials stays on brand with the character of their brand. When a company knows, from an inner knowing of their brand, who they are and what they represent and how they work; they build the brand loyalty and self-awareness with company and their audience. by Laura Ojeda, Latino Outreach Coordinator, Oceanside Chamber
Last Saturday members of the Latino Business Committee of the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce along with members of the community celebrated the 50th anniversary of Johnny the Barber. We were honored to have celebrated this milestone in his career and see the impact he has in the Latino Community. Johnny opened his barber shop in a time in which man were not accustomed to cut hair in a time and the industry was full of woman. He mentioned how he does more than cutting peoples hair, but he builds relationships with his clients and delivers outstanding customer service and that is the sole reason why he has had such great success as a Barber.
What exactly is a brand? It’s a very trendy word nowadays in the business world. Even the clients that I work with get confused with the actual concept of branding or brand development in regards to their logo. In this series I want to give you a different perspective on what the term “branding” actually is and how you can better connect your brand with your audience. As a designer my job is to effectively communicate one’s vision and ideas into physical form and connect with a target audience in a way that increases the overall value of one’s brand. Take in mind that it may not result in a bottom line value at first. Through brand recognition, positioning, experience, meaning, character, and crafting the story of the brand in a way that connects with their audience emotionally, you will eventually convert that customer into your tribe. The way a person experiences your brand from first recognition, through their experience and story of the brand (website, marketing material, communications) even to customer service encompasses the vast spectrum of what branding is. First things first, identity thieves do not discriminate when deciding to hack into a company. Large, small and everything in between are vulnerable. They want the biggest bang for their buck with the least amount of risk. So what are a few of the ways they invade?
1. False invoices are sent to Accounts Payable in the hopes that those who are writing the checks will not verify their legitimacy. This seems impossible, but these invoices appear real and are very nearly the same as others sent to the company and are not in amounts that would draw much attention. 2. Employees are contacted by what they think is their HR department telling them that there has been a change in their human resource status. They use the link supplied in the email and are taken to a site that looks very much like the real HR site for their company. As soon as they log in, the thieves capture that login information and go to the real site to gain access. Once there, they redirect that employee’s paycheck by changing the direct deposit information to the thief’s bank account. 3. Emails are sent to employees from thieves who are posing as their CEO, Supervisor or Manager requesting documents or sensitive data. Because it’s coming from their “admin staff,” employees assume it’s legitimate and so don’t even hesitate to send this data off. Prevalent is the request for an employees’ W2 information or horror of horrors the entire payroll spreadsheet. This is on the rise and the W2 information is used to file fraudulent tax returns. The IRS has issued an alert to Human Resource people to inform their staff of this particular scam. Interesting results come up when Googling phishing and W2 scam. You will be stunned. 4. Even churches are in the crosshairs. An email is sent to the person who is in charge of the books that appears to come from the pastor or a senior church official. The email requests a bank-to-bank transfer for an urgent and confidential matter. Because this type of request is plausible in the context of church business, there’s no question and the transfer is made, right into the thief’s bank account. With "Spring Cleaning" checked off of the list (or not, we won't judge), it’s the perfect time to transition into "summer organizing." The phrase might not have quite the same ring to it, but here at the Inspired Home we think its always a great time to get organized. For most of us, summer brings with it a big shift in work and family life. With the kids home from school, beach days, and more hours of sunlight— our schedules change, foot traffic in and out of the house picks up, and so does the clutter and messes. We'd like to help you prepare for this busy season by sharing a few of our favorite organizing tips and tricks to inspire your "summer organizing." by Scott Ashton
Earlier this week, the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce held its 1st Annual Oceanside Heroes event, recognizing some of Oceanside's finest public safety employees and educators. The event, presented by Tri-City Medical Center, was held on the rooftop terrace at the Springhill Suites by Marriott in downtown Oceanside. Representatives from the Oceanside Police Department, Oceanside Fire Department, Oceanside Lifeguards and Oceanside Unified School District were recognized for outstanding contributions to the well-being and advancement of our City. Photos by Alan Crosthwaite Photography by Scott Ashton This past weekend, the Chamber had the honor of hosting Oceanside's Annual Armed Forces Day Operation Appreciation. The event has been a community tradition for 15 years, as businesses from Oceanside and as far away as the East Coast come together to provide a day of free food, musical entertainment and children's activities for local active duty military families.

Even with all the digital technology and the advancements of the cloud and its capabilities, businesses are generating more paper than ever before and continue to try to manage this paper in a digital world. The transition from paper to digital is easier than one might think, and the cost savings after the conversion is the greatest benefit of all. While there are many scanning devices that offices can use in-house for smaller jobs, larger jobs are quite often outsourced to professional scanning companies who not only have the ability to scan any type of image (i.e. paper, microfilm, microfiche) but have the software for document management, data extraction, indexing and classification. With the assistance of this key technology, organizations can be left to manage core business functions full time. Here are some of the top reasons on how organizations can reduce costs with document scanning and a digital workflow. Max has taken thousands of photos of Oceanside. Above are just a few of his favorites. ![]() by Scott Ashton Maxime Koch has a dream of bringing his artistic talents to the United States one day. At just 20 years old, he has just completed his 5th visit to the United States in the last five years, and will be returning for another visit in less than two months. Max has a passion for the arts, including photography, drawing, guitar and tattoo artistry. Max’s love for the U.S. began before he ever visited the country. As a boy, Max enjoyed watching American movies, which he says gave him a vision of what it would be like here. Max’s first visit to the U.S. came as part of Ace International’s cultural exchange program when he was 16 years old. He stayed with a local family for three weeks. His visit turned out to match the expectations he found in the movies. “This is how I was imagining it would be in the United States.” Summer is almost here – and that means spending time at the beach. Or as they say where I grew up in New Jersey, “let’s go down the shore”.
In Southern California we are so lucky because we can be at the beach any day of the year. You want to surf on Christmas Day? Why not! For those of us who love to take photos, we know that the beach can be a challenging place to take great photographs of people. The sun, the sand, the wind… these can all present challenges when it comes to taking portraits at the beach. Whether you’re using your smart phone, or the latest and greatest photo gear, here are some tricks that can help you get a great beach portrait. by Amber Ter-Vrugt

I have worked part time with the Orange County Public Library system for over ten years and really enjoy it. In July 2015, I received a two-page notification that my personal data had been compromised when attackers successfully penetrated the employee network database. Here’s the list of information they said was a part of the breach: my name, address, date of birth, Social Security number, Driver’s license number, payroll information, dental, vision, life and disability enrollment information, retirement status, dependent information, usernames and passwords. According to their records, the attack had been underway for about two months. Due to the breach, the county offered identity theft coverage for one year for anyone involved. I have my own robust coverage, but why not have a little more, right? So I enrolled. Less than two weeks ago, I received another letter from the same employee organization stating that they had been experiencing “several electronic attempts by unknown third parties” to access employee accounts without authorization. Since I was not notified directly, but only by a general letter, my account was not in the sweep this time. by Scott Ashton
April 21st was an amazing day for the Oceanside business community. Several hundred local business professionals and community members gathered at the QLN Conference Center for the Annual Oceanside Business Expo. Exhibitors explained their products and services to potential customers. Restaurants and caterers had a captive (and hungry) audience that was excited to try some of Oceanside's best cuisine. Oceanside's growing brewery scene was on display as several local brewers, along with Beach House Winery offered tastings. by Kristi Hawthorne,
“That Boy Good” is both the name of a popular downtown restaurant and the statement many will make after tasting one of their delicious entrees. The eatery is located in a rather inconspicuous building at 207 North Coast Highway. You might not find it by name but its popularity has spread by word of mouth, and that’s exactly what owners Kim and Mark were going for. That Boy Good’s storefront is simply painted with the words “BBQ” and “Cold Beer”. The interior is reminiscent of a southern juke joint, rustic and eclectic. Kim Millwood, co-owner, made most of the furnishing including the tables and a variety of fixtures, in fact, ninety percent of the interior is made of recycled or repurposed materials. by Jyotika Chand,
If you just joined a chamber or going to networking events you know that sometimes they can be a bit overwhelming. You walk in and there are so many people in the room. You meet a few people, introduce yourself, and maybe even throw out your pitch. You don’t remember everyone and you didn’t have time to get a good feel for those you did meet. Don’t worry you’re not alone. The Oceanside Chamber has found a way to make networking less stressful and more intimate for its members. They call it Plates for 8. A member of the chamber hosts the networking luncheon for 8-10 members from 11:30am-1:00pm at a restaurant. This allows the experience to be beneficial to everyone. You get to speak about yourself and your business so others can get to know you at a more personal level and know how to help you grow successfully. by Jyotika Chand, RN,

The proposed California Secure Choice Retirement Plan essentially would be a 401(k) plan operated by the state and open to private-sector workers whose employers don’t offer a retirement savings plan. California has taken a step closer to becoming the first state to make retirement savings accounts a near-universal benefit for workers with a plan that lawmakers hope will help ease an expected massive shortfall in retirement savings. A state board Monday sent a set of recommendations to the Legislature calling for the creation of the California Secure Choice Retirement Plan — essentially a 401(k) plan operated by the state and open to private-sector workers whose employers don't offer a retirement savings plan. by Kierstin Hill
In 1974, several local women, including Janet Bledsoe and Colleen O’Harra, opened a rape crisis center, known as the Women’s Resource Center. The Women’s Resource Center was designed to serve the North County population because at that time, the closest center was in Hillcrest in downtown San Diego. Soon after opening the crisis center, the Oceanside Police Department came to WRC and asked them to help with child abuse as well. WRC accepted the request and started another organization, Casa de Amparo. A short while later, law enforcement came to WRC with another request: help with domestic violence. The Women’s Resource Center was growing too large so the Board of Directors decided to split into two organizations. Casa de Amparo would focus on child abuse and the Women’s Resource Center would focus on sexual assault and domestic violence. Thanks to the hard work of our Oceanside City Maintenance workers, our beloved Oceanside sign is back and looking great!

Senior Living years really can be golden years for many in senior communities.
Many seniors and families even look for especially active communities for their new Independent Living or Assisted Living! Of course, living at home seems like a great deal for seniors, and most expect to stay there as long as possible. But, living without regular social interaction and activity can result in depression and unnecessarily poor health. Obviously, health and physical capabilities are limiting to many seniors, but even frail individuals can benefit from, and enjoy, interaction with others in games, art, music and many forms of social fun. Actually, some of the most impressive improvements in social interaction and overall satisfaction come from joining others at meal time for small talk and news. |
