The City of Oceanside Quiet Zone project installs new pedestrian crossing gates at five road crossings: Cassidy Street, Oceanside Boulevard, Wisconsin Street, Mission Avenue, and Surfrider Way. The gates and railings protect people from approaching trains and safely guide them across the railroad tracks. The upgrades qualify Oceanside for a railroad Quiet Zone on its coastal rail corridor. In a Quiet Zone, engineers are no longer required to sound a train horn at each crossing.
In 2009, the City of Oceanside adopted the Coast Highway Vision and Strategic Plan. This plan serves as a blueprint for the revitalization and enhancement of the Coast Highway corridor between Harbor Drive in the north and Buena Vista Lagoon in the south. The Vision and Strategic Plan includes several recommendations to transform Coast Highway from an auto-oriented thoroughfare into a "complete street" that serves all modes of transportation from automobiles to pedestrians to bicyclists and transit vehicles.
An Afternoon with Author and Succulent Expert Debra Lee Baldwin The Friends of the Oceanside Public library, with the support of the Library and local business and community groups, will host a “Simply Succulent” event at the El Corazon Senior Center, 3302 Senior Drive, Oceanside, CA. on Saturday, May 18, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. The Oceanside Public Library is excited to announce a single, online searchable catalog, called Link+, from which available material from other libraries statewide can be requested and delivered to your local Oceanside library location. Starting in early April, with Link+ you can borrow books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks on CD from over 70 public and academic libraries, and receive them at your Oceanside Library branch within 7 days or less. This cooperative resource-sharing effort brings materials from over 370 locations or branches directly to you.

The Oceanside Public Library will be offering a thirteen-week Citizenship Class for eligible students to prepare for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) Naturalization Test. Classes will be held at the Civic Center Library in the second-floor Foundation Room on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., beginning on April 3. In this class, students will learn about U.S. history and government, and prepare for the citizenship interview. Classes will be taught by volunteer teachers who have classroom experience and training specific to the topic.

The City of Oceanside was notified this week that it will receive $2.623 Million in funding from the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART's Desalination Construction Projects under the WIIN Act, subject to Federal appropriations. The funding will be used to construct two extraction wells within the Mission Basin as well as brine minimization treatment components. The project will increase the supply of locally-sourced water as well as reduce the volume of brine discharged to the Pacific Ocean via the Oceanside Ocean Outfall.
OBR’s site preparation activities will officially kick-off on Tuesday, January 29, 2019. Official groundbreaking and construction start will be February 6, 2019. Construction will be ongoing through the summer of 2020. As a good neighbor, our team will work methodically to minimize
disruption to local residents and businesses. We thank you for your support and patience. The City of Oceanside Housing Commission Homelessness Ad-Hoc Committee Meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers, located at 300 N. Coast Highway, on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 5:00 p.m.
In support of the City’s Local Coastal Program (LCP) Update, the Oceanside Planning Division held a community workshop on November 8, 2018 to introduce residents and other stakeholders to the recently completed Coastal Hazards Vulnerability Assessment (VA), which identifies coastal resources at risk of flooding and wave run-up associated with projected sea level rise. The VA reveals that a wide range of public and private assets on the City’s coastline are vulnerable to sea level rise, including the Oceanside Small Craft Harbor, public amenities in proximity to Oceanside Municipal Pier, The Strand, public parking facilities, and beachfront residential properties. The VA provides the basis for the preparation of a Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan (AP), which will outline specific strategies for enhancing the resiliency of the City’s coastline. Workshop materials, along with a summary of the workshop, have been posted to the project webpage.
On October 17, 2018, the Oceanside City Council voted unanimously to declare a Shelter Crisis. This declaration was necessary to establish eligibility to seek an allocation of funds through the State of California’s Homeless Emergency Aid Program. In response to the City Council’s declaration, and consistent with its mission and bylaws, on November 27, 2018, the Oceanside Housing Commission created an ad-hoc committee to examine the causes of homelessness and develop and recommend sustainable solutions to address homelessness in our community.
The Oceanside City Council is seeking applicants to fill the vacant City Clerk position. The person appointed will hold office until the expiration of the term (December 2020). Applications may be found on the City of Oceanside website and are due to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on January 23, 2019.

Malkin Properties’ plans for the two blocks that will transform into a state-of-the-art resort.
